I am traveling to Cost Rica, and I always like to know about the dogs of any place I visit.

In my research I found that there are thousands of street dogs in Costa Rica

There are also many dog rescues that are finding homes for them.

Yet there are so many street dogs it seems from what I am reading.

As far as I can see there are no dog breeds that originate in Costa Rica.

Yes, I know how it goes, two dogs get together etc, but why so many?

It seems a lot of street dogs come from dogs bred in puppy mills. There has been a push to make puppy mills illegal, yet as far as I could find out they are not.

"Costa Rica’s Dog Dilemma - One Million Abandoned a Year and 95% Come from Puppy Mills"

This is a headline from Latino Daily News. It is from 2012.

I have not yet been able to find out what the situation is today. Perhaps I will when I go there this month.
