The Basenji is the quiet dog

The Basenji is one of the hound group, a very special group in my opinion, me being slightly partial to his group members the whippet and greyhound.

The Basenji is often called the barkless dog.

Basenji is a poised, elegant hunting dog from Africa.

The standard for the dog is that it has white on the feet, and on its chest and tail. It can be black, copper, red, or a combination of these colours. The tail is set high and curled over to either side. The coat is short and shiny.

The Basenji does not bark, but it can make a noise that sounds a bit like a yodel. It also howls growls and crows, depending on the dog's mood.

The Basenji is generally an energetic dog and enjoys playing. It is very intelligent and usually wants to please. It is somewhat reserved, but can still form bonds with humans. As with some hounds, it may not necessarily be trusted with pets such as cats, guinea pigs, birds, and such.

Basenji's are very clever at getting their own way. "Barkless but not silent, the mischievous Basenji is a con artist of the highest order and will challenge your intelligence and sense of humor"

As an owner of one of these clever dogs you will need to be the alpha, and show your natural authority, and the Basenji will make a wonderful pet.
