Giving thanks for my dog, all dogs

He is always there when I come home

He doesn’t use my cellular phone

He is the first face I see when I get up

And he does not drink from my coffee cup

He has four paws, but I don’t have to buy him shoes

And he can always shake away my blues

He can hear with them and point with them, his cute pointy ears

And he helps me scare away all irrational fears

When we go out for a long walk

I always see someone and stop and talk

Each day I walk at least a mile

And with each walk I wear a smile

I go to many lovely parks

He tells me if he likes it by the way he barks

He only barks when needed, and when someone comes to the door

If I say stop, then he is good and he barks no more

If it is the mailman with my mail

He comes to me and wags his tail (my dog that is)

Everyone knows him when I walk to the shop

They will admire him and always stop

He is my friend and companion and lives in my home

With him there I never feel at all alone

He is clever as he can read my mood

Yet is it that he just wants food?

He does not require gourmet meals but there's not much he'd turn down

His food looks the same, kibble bits and brown

And still he eats it and does not turn his dish upside down

He would tolerate a cat, if I had one

As long as it did not wear a hat, or sit in the sun

He would let the cat finds its place

After a bit of a chase

With a smile on his face

He licks his feet while he watched TV

But he does not mind whatever I watch. He is happy

He does not play with the remote

So I can watch what I like

He does not hang up my coat

But he lets me stay out late at night

As long as I come home and give him a pat

Now what on earth can be wrong with that?

Our dogs are our friends through thick and thin

They don’t care if we lose or if we win

For to them we are always winners

Always serving them dinners

They don’t care where we have been

As long as we come back

We can wear red white or green

Or be all dressed in black

They love us unconditionally there is nothing better

And, most of them do not even need a sweater.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your dog

and the cat too.
